Nick Park CBE returns to Preston to open Animate

Award-winning film director Nick Park CBE is returning to Preston to open Animate on Thursday, 20 February.

Nick will join The Mayor of Preston, Councillor Phil Crowe and other special guests to unveil a new piece of artwork for the city centre. 

Nick was previously guest of honour in the city in September 2021, when he unveiled the city's iconic Wallace and Gromit bench at Preston Markets.

Nestled next to Preston's Markets, Animate, the city's brand-new leisure destination is coming to life just in time for February half-term. The countdown begins!  

Wallace and Gromit will also be in Town! 

And what better way to celebrate than with some very special guests? Wallace and Gromit are heading home to Preston! Fresh from their latest adventure, Vengeance Most Fowl, which just scooped two BAFTAs for 'Best Animated Film' and 'Children's Family Film' and has been nominated for an Academy Award - the iconic duo will be making an appearance to meet fans of all ages. 

Before jetting off to the red carpets, they'll be wandering around Animate and Preston Markets between 1pm-5pm. You might catch them buying some Wensleydale or a nice cup of tea from one of the many Market stalls.

The Big Day: what's happening? 

• 1pm - 5pm - Meet Wallace and Gromit
• 3pm - Official Opening Ceremony with Nick Park and The Mayor of Preston, outside what will soon be Hollywood Bowl
• 4-6pm - Preston Concert Band will bring the vibes with classic theme tunes at the Covered Market

Don't forget to keep an eye out for The Arc Cinema, who will be handing out free popcorn and goodies because what's a celebration without snacks? The Arc Cinema officially opens Friday 21 February, screening the latest blockbuster movies!
